I’m not a huge fan of painting decking boards.  Especially not hardwood boards.  Staining can work.  But can lead to unpleasant results.  Tinting your deck forever!  Let it silver up over time and leave it alone.  Give a sweep and gentle clean.  Don’t overdo it with the jet wash.  Hardwood decks can benefit from oiling from time to time.  It prevents the timber from cracking and splitting.  And enhances the grain!

• Connect the wire and fittings to each screw eye. And tension.  Don’t over tighten!

1/2 cup malt vinegar (or white vinegar)

2 tablespoons dark rum

2 Scotch bonnet peppers (or habaneros), with seeds, chopped

1 red onion, chopped

4 green onion tops, chopped

1 tablespoon dried thyme or 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves, chopped

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

2 teaspoons salt

2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper

4 teaspoons ground allspice

4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

4 teaspoons ground nutmeg

4 teaspoons ground ginger

2 teaspoons molasses

1/2 cup lime juice

1 (5 to 6 pound) chicken, cut in half lengthwise

Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

Make the jerk marinade ∙ Adding to the Chicken

Put the vinegar, rum, hot peppers, onion, green onion tops, thyme, olive oil, salt, pepper, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and molasses into a blender. Pulse until mostly smooth.  Marinate the chicken overnight and BBQ.
